The Bronx hosts some of the best
health care
institutions in the city. Citizens travel far and wide to visit to our
world-renowned medical centers; almost one in three Bronx residents
are employed by the health care sector. Yet the statistics are
overwhelming- last year in
the Central Bronx, 12,000 people did not have health insurance or
receive medical attention; 43,000 did not have a regular doctor. These
statistics are unacceptable.
Numerous non-profit organizations have stepped in to urge Bronx
residents to be mindful of their health and wellness.
To bolster their efforts, I have created Fit Now.
Fit Now is a campaign to address the health and wellness needs of Bronx
residents through partnerships with businesses and non-profit
organizations. Fit Now will help improve the
lives of Bronxites by promoting healthy diets and discounts for healthy
products.
Fit Now will educate residents by providing a website with health and
health care information as well as public service announcements and
other materials to remind residents about the importance
of staying healthy. This partnership will provide a powerful foundation
of both community and governmental support in order to make health and
wellness a key part of Bronx life.
By working together we can help Bronxites attain health and wellness.
I ask all organizations and businesses to join me in this effort by
supporting Fit Now. |
