This issue is dedicated to a subject that touches almost every American's
life, directly or indirectly.
There are 9.6 million cancer survivors in the United States - approximately
3% of the U.S. population. There have been many advances made in the fight
against the physical side of cancer. The emotional and mental side effects
of cancer can last a lifetime.
In this issue, two nonprofit organizations that address this are featured.
They deal with cancer survivors as people, not as patients - an important
step to feeling normal again. This is a very personal subject for me - I am
a three-year survivor of cancer and know the importance of being treated
"normally."
