 The Creative Center

The Creative Center is a community of artists, cancer patients and survivors, trustees, donors, and friends who are dedicated to bringing creative arts to people living with cancer.

The National Training Program for Hospital Artists-In-Residence provides professional training to artists worldwide to work with cancer patients in their hometown medical centers, clinics and hospitals.

The Training Program features seminars, workshops and open studios led by artists, physicians, nurses and psychologists from New York's leading educational and medical centers.

The Creative Center also offers free workshops for people with cancer at their loft space at 14 West 26th Street.

The Creative Center Gallery Program presents the works of professional and non-professional artists with cancer.

This issue is dedicated to a subject that touches almost every American's life, directly or indirectly.

There are 9.6 million cancer survivors in the United States - approximately 3% of the U.S. population. There have been many advances made in the fight against the physical side of cancer. The emotional and mental side effects of cancer can last a lifetime.

In this issue, two nonprofit organizations that address this are featured. They deal with cancer survivors as people, not as patients - an important step to feeling normal again. This is a very personal subject for me - I am a three-year survivor of cancer and know the importance of being treated "normally."
